SONA
SONA (Student Organization for Networking in Architecture) is the official student body of the RAIA (Royal Australian Institute of Architects) SONA is an organisation whose makeup is determined by the broad variety of its members. A National Committee of representatives takes on the responsibility of organizing events, sitting on various boards and committees, and generally making things happen.
The SONA National Committee has a representative from each of the accredited schools of architecture in Australia. Each of them has volunteered their time and energy to represent the interests and professional future of students of architecture in Australia.

SONA EVENTS
SONA (Adelaide Uni and Uni SA) will be hosting our first joint event of the year. This event is promoted as a major networking event between architecture students from Universities as well as NAG (New Architects Group), RAIA (Royal Australian Institute of Architects) and those from the profession and industry.
EVERYONE IS INVITED
SONA 08: Texta Party
Venue: Mojo's on Hindley Street
Time and date: Thursday, 8th of May 2008, 7.30pm
Food and drink: 1 Keg + BBQ on the house
Cost: Tickets will be sold prior to the event $5 SONA members and $10 for non SONA members
Framework: A T-shirt Texta Design competition will be held on the night.
Each participant will be given a white t-shirt upon arrival and multiple colour textas will be available at the venue. Participants will then 'design' the t- shirts on others.
At 10.00pm all t-shirts will be judged by roving judges from NAG.
There will be prize packs for five of the best t-shirts.
The prize packs consist of:
2 bottles of wine sponsored by RAIA
$20 voucher from Urban Gallerie
$20 Eckersley’s Voucher
$20 Borders voucher sponsored by NAG
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
The sign up days for SONA ($90) are Thursday and Friday of
week two (March 13 & 14). There will be a BBQ lunch on the Thursday held in
conjunction with a school Mentor Scheme.
If you signed up with SONA during the holidays or have registered for the
RAIA conference bring your invoice on thursday or friday for free a Terra
Publication, SONA Tshirt and a BBQ lunch!!!
OWEEK
Orientation Week at SALUD included the traditional Beach Day and sandcastle
competition for first years. Held on Thursday 28th February under the jetty at
Grange Beach SA, with a BBQ lunch provided by Fielders.
SA Chapter President Andrew Vorrasi and new Chapter Manager Richard Hosking as
well as Office Manager Marissa Dorney came to represent the RAIA and greet the
first years.
COMPETITIONS
The Dialectical Bridge Competition
STUDENTS OF FOURTH YEAR are entering the Dialectical Bridge Competition, a new
dimension to the Conference. It is a nation-wide student project to design a
footbridge to connect two sides of a river, two places and two cities.

Submissions for terra#four close on the 31 March - that in only four weeks.
If you would like your work published in the next terra, a publication of
student work/design projects from all years in architecture, theory, writing,
photography, graphics, get in touch with kimberley or will.
The last Terra is available for members on membership drive day
ARCHITECTURAL REFERENCE LIBRARY now open!
RAIA SA Chapter has made a reference library available to student members and
people who are interested in signing up to SONA at the Chapter office.
The library houses the latest range of architectural, building and design books
from leading authors around the world.
The library will continuously be updated with the most up to date range of
books.
SO COME IN, JOIN US FOR COFFEE, FREE INTERNET ACCESS, and enjoy the wonderful
library.

EXCITING BBQ NEWS!
because we love bbqs
Hey guys we have obtained a BBQ for the students to use this year. It was
kindly donated from a member of SALUD staff. thanks!
Students can use the BBQ for fundraising, functions, or for just for the sake
of having a good old BBQ feed. Chris Byrne is likely to be head chef but ask
your sona rep if you would like to use the bbq.
NAG - New Architects Group
Anthony Balsamo and Danielle O'Dea founders of the NAG group of SA presented to
the final year students about NAG and thier upcoming events for 2008.
Students can look them up on Facebook and become a fan or email any enquiries
RAIA MENTOR SCHEME - REGISTER NOW!
The RAIA mentor scheme is open for students in fourth and fifth year with 2008 SONA membership ($90) Some benefits are:
Practical advice from someone outside the University system An insight into a practicing Architects office An opportunity to discuss projects the Architect has completed or is working on The possibility of a site visit to one of their projects Networking opportunities that builds contacts for when you graduate AN EXPANDED IDEA OF WHAT ARCHITECTURE IS ALL ABOUT !
